Everyone’s spending habits (and vices associated with spending habits) are quite varied, so it’s unfortunately something you need to work out for yourself. What are you currently spending your money on? If you don’t know, start writing down everything you spend your money on at the end of the day.
Things to pay close attention to which tend to be a problem for a number of people:
- Dining out, fast food (making food at home is a lot cheaper)
- bank service fees (including fees for using another bank’s ATMs)
- Did I mention dining out? Add beverages on the go to that too. Fancy coffees can really add up.
- Alcohol
- Groceries (are you buying things like produce that just rot? Are you buying prepared foods at the store instead of making food yourself? Instant dinners are still more expensive than make from scratch)
- Magazines
- Clothing
- Impulse buys
Scrutinize everything you’re spending your money on and separate them into Wants and Needs. You should be able to find a way to reduce a lot of the “wants” spending.
Also leave your credit cards and debit cards at home to reduce impulse spending.
