I learned about this on Answers, and then went there when I visited and it was really as cool as it sounds: “The Garment District” and besides having a great used clothing store, it has this section of a HUGE heap of clothes on the floor that you climb through and purchase by the pound!! I googled the directions and its someplace near Harvard.
I would definitley say the North End, I have been to Boston more times than I can count and everytime that we go to the Northend I can ALWAYS find a deal. One time there was this sweatshirt I wanted, $45!!!! When we went to the Northend $10. AMAZING! And also ocourse the vendors on the sides of streets, although I probably wouldn’t get clothing from them I might get souveniers or glasses or something like that! They have such a wide variety of different cozy little stores, i love it!
Garment District is a lot of fun, definitely check it out. It’s a couple blocks up Broadway from the Kendall T station in Cambridge. You can’t miss it, it’s a bright pink building.
Downtown Crossing has a lot of shops – Macys, H&M, all the usual stuff.

I went to Filenes basement yesterday and it was great! they are having a huge sale there! the cheapest places I have ever been are Frugal Fannies (westwood) and Building 19. There are a LOT of great deals.
Frugal Fannies:
brand name things for really cheap. i bought an Ann Klein scaft for 50 cents and the store is REALLY big!
Building 19:
really good bargins on everything (clothes, supplies, art, furniture, building, etc) when i went school supply shopping they had binders for $2 (usually $12) and their clothes arent the best quality sometimes but are almost alays below $10.
hope I helped!
