I have been, for a long while now, disenchanted with the path American business has taken with regard to its disregard of its own customers. They advocate, “the customer is always right” but this saying is nothing more than lip service to cover up their greed and complete disregard for, not just its customers, but human beings in general. I am sickened by the fact that it has taken the death of hundreds of innocent animals to make us aware of corporate greed, but at the same time call upon everyone to never forget these times and to never allow again corporations to gain such control over our bodies and minds and souls. We can make this statement by what products we purchase. Let us send this message.

It is a very sad situation.

Yeah i agree it sucks that this happens. What is even scarier though is that there have been many recalls for food humans eat: peanut butter, tomatos, lettuce, and milk have all had recalls in less than 1 year. To me, it just helps show how companies are paying less attention to their products and are caring too much our their profit margins.

I have gone into different sites and read about this and I have some interesting information. Some people have thought that the people that make the food for our pets got the wheat gluten in china but what I have read it was in two places. I also came across a port alert that I read on Pet connection .con and someone else told them about it and it came from the FDA. The person that told Pet connection about it then Pet connection.com told everyone else by placing it on their site. I had gone in to read it and I was in shock where the wheat gluten was coming from but also the melamine came from. The wheat gluten came from china but the melamine came from the Neatherlands. When I opened the link for it . It was two port alerts one for china and one for the neatherlands. People should go check it out. Pet Connection.com. If you go Check it out go to Find breaking news on our web Blog then it will say Petfood recall what we have here then click on Detention without physical examination& intensifield and there is another one that is called Coverage of wheat gluten due to the presence of melamine. then you can see the port alerts.
It is the GREEN stuff that they are concerned about

I view it as a horrible accident, for the most part.
I also don’t believe all the information is out as yet. They are now saying that the affected pets did not have any trace of the supposed rat poison tainting the food, and if it is ingested, the chemical remains. So what made the pets sick?
Now they are saying there is melamine in the gluten. Yet melamine would not account for the sickness and death in the pets! So is the actual problem some combination of chemicals that should not have been in the food at all? I can’t imagine what fertilizing properties melamine has (which is how it got into the food, it is used in China as a fertilizer).
I understand that it is a matter of economics that drives the pet food industry to buy ingredients from other countries, but it kind of seems foolish when we have tonnes and tonnes of wheat sitting in graineries here in Canada (and tons and tons in the States – since they are not metric :) ) And we are probably similarly stocked for any other ingredient needed.
I think the companies have been slow in pulling product they know or at least suspect has been tainted, waiting for “proof” that it was their products causing problems to these pets. Again, as a business, I understand they want to protect their investments and their reputations, but I think it would be much better to err on the side of caution (pull the products first, quickly, and find out it was not necessary, but having the advantage of protecting lives of their four legged consumers).
Sadly, this is not a phenomenon only in the pet food world. It has happened more times than I care to think about in human food as well :( (.
