babyboy – stick to the detail bay.
When you are purchasing a new car, look for any dealer-ads they may have put on the car. There will be an addendum sticker right beside the MSRP that says what the dealer has added. This may show wheels, stripes, tint or the infamous “protection package”. If they have that addendum, you should start by ignoring it and working on the MSRP only.
First off – the protection package is about 95% profit. Depending on where you live it will go by different names – here its called a “Desert Protection Package” and it allegedly includes paint sealant, window tint, interior treatment, and striping. The cost of that package is about $200. The added price is $2495. So start by tossing that out.
Beyond that, don’t fight to get ANYTHING added to the car. Contrary to Babyboy’s advice, wheels do NOT add to resell value. If you look at blue book, we add $1-200 for alloy wheels. You pay thousands. Its not a bonus.
Anything you think you are getting for free, you are paying for. One way or another. We are not in business to hand out goodie bags with car purchase. If they are including “free” window tint, tell them you would rather have the $200 off the car and pay for tint yourself. If they will “include” 5 free oil changes, ask for $150 off the car and pay for the oil changes yourself.
If you have gotten to a number that they are not budging on, and they will still include those things, then take them. But if its thrown out as an incentive rather than a discount, take the cash.
Why?
Because all the things you add to the car translate to a higher loan balance. That means more interest paid, higher payments, and staying upside down longer.
The ONLY thing I tell customers to add to their purchase is Gap insurance. Gap insurance is supplemental to your standard car insurance. If your car is stolen or totaled, your insurance company will only pay a certain amount. If you owe more than that, GAP will pay the difference. I have a friend who was on the hook for $9k after totaling her car, so I have been preaching GAP ever since.
The way new cars are built these days, I am not sure extended warranties are smart. The cars come with longer warranties these days, and typically are built to last 100k+miles. If you plan on keeping it forever, then maybe a warranty makes sense for your peace of mind. But if you plan on getting somethign different in 3-4 yrs, pass.
Hope that was some help :)

ok there are many thing’s that are over looked the price now days is kinda turned to up front lowest price but most every thing im going to say is premium but to save time im not going to write it every time got it
