Like it has been said already, “independent thinking”. The reason the US is going through so much trouble now is because people are subject to the parties. You can’t support gay rights and be against abortion at the same time, because that is hypocritical of a “party”.
For God sake, can’t we just believe what we want, stand for what we want, have pride in what we want, without having to explain ourselves?
Who knows.
Why did many Democrats vote against the budget that passed?
Why did many Democrats vote against the stimulus?
The dems control the House and the Senate. The republicans don’t want to take any blame for stupidity regardless of which party is comes from.

DAR – Thanks for the link to the Ron Paul video. The good doctor at his finest. The Republicans should be damned for all of eternity for not making him their candidate. The outcome might have been the same, but at least half the political dialogue would have been intelligent and truthful.
